A Brief History of Gedikpasa Hammam
Gedikpasa Hammam was built in 1475 by the grand vizier Gedik Ahmed Pasha, to the design of the architect Mimar Hayrettin — only about two decades after the Ottoman conquest of Istanbul, which makes it one of the oldest hammams still in use in the city. My first Turkish Hamam experience. I can’t praise my natir Mutlu highly enough. She was skilled, professional and communicated well despite our different languages. I had a traditional hamam followed by a full body massage totalling £123 which felt very reasonable .An experience I shall cherish (and hope to repeat!).The Gedikpasa Hamam itself is clean, well maintained, relaxing and welcoming. It’s easily found a few minutes walk from the Grand Bazaar. I would definitely visit again.
