A Brief History of Gedikpasa Hammam
Gedikpasa Hammam was built in 1475 by the grand vizier Gedik Ahmed Pasha, to the design of the architect Mimar Hayrettin — only about two decades after the Ottoman conquest of Istanbul, which makes it one of the oldest hammams still in use in the city. We had a wonderful experience at Gedik Pasa Hamam, an authentic old Ottoman bath that truly captures the traditional ambiance. Our bath ladies — Ayfer, Bahriye, and Oznur — were warm, attentive, and made us feel relaxed throughout the session. We especially enjoyed the foot massage, which was a lovely addition to the overall treatment.The facility itself is well-equipped with hair dryers and spacious changing rooms stocked with everything you need. The only drawback was that the door to the actual hamam wasn’t closing (likely to manage the heat), but we would have preferred it shut to keep the warmth inside. It would also be great if they added bathrobes to their package for extra comfort. Despite this minor inconvenience, we still highly recommend Gedik Pasa Hamam for anyone looking to enjoy a genuine Turkish bath experience.
