A Brief History of Gedikpasa Hammam
Gedikpasa Hammam was built in 1475 by the grand vizier Gedik Ahmed Pasha, to the design of the architect Mimar Hayrettin — only about two decades after the Ottoman conquest of Istanbul, which makes it one of the oldest hammams still in use in the city. Perfect First Hammam Experience — Highly Recommend
This was our first time visiting Istanbul, and we ended up coming at the perfect time—just before peak season, when the weather is starting to warm up but the crowds haven’t fully arrived.I had done quite a bit of research beforehand on which hammam to choose, but after wandering through the Grand Bazaar, we happened to walk by Gedikpasa Hamami and decided to go in on a whim—and I’m so glad we did.As first-time hammam visitors, we weren’t entirely sure what to expect, but the experience was fantastic. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing, and the space itself was beautiful, clean, and very well maintained. The whole process felt authentic but still comfortable for newcomers.I would absolutely recommend this to anyone visiting Istanbul, especially if it’s your first hammam experience. If we had more time in the city, we would definitely go back.
