About Cagaloglu Hammam
Welcome to the glory of the Cagaloglu Hammam, a historical gem in the heart of the Old City of Istanbul. Dive into a world of luxury and tradition since the 18th century, where the comfort of the modern era and the culture of the Ottoman baths come together.
From the moment you arrive, you will be captivated by the authentic style of classic Turkish hospitality and Ottoman architecture surrounding you at every turn — chic marble detailing and classical Turkish motifs create a cool ambiance. Divided into two separate sections for men and women, the hammam ensures privacy and a personal experience for each guest.
The journey begins with the warm room, where the gentle heat and steam prepares your body for the traditional bathing ritual under the grand dome. The starry lights will let you feel like you are having a bath under the stars. Leading on to the hot room, with a heated marble platform and your body relaxing in a steam-filled atmosphere that opens your muscles and pores.
Professional therapists offer authentic Ottoman experiences, providing a special scrubbing head to toe with exfoliating scrubs (Kese) and massages. After a certain time at the hot room, it is time to eventually get to the cold room in order to chill out with traditional Turkish tea or sherbet.
A Brief History of Cagaloglu Hammam
Cagaloglu Hammam was completed in 1741 on the order of Sultan Mahmud I, who dedicated its earnings to the library he founded inside the Hagia Sophia. It is counted among the last major hamams built in Istanbul during the Ottoman period, and its decoration reflects the 18th-century Ottoman Baroque style. As one architectural history records, its plan “follows the long-established traditional form for hamams, though the architectural details and decoration reflect the later Ottoman Baroque style of the 18th century.” Source: Cagaloglu Hamam, historical record.

Mandatory experience
Mandatory experience when visiting Istanbul, the important thing is to be lucky to catch a good masseuse. Many of them are Asian and work in hotels for a pleasant and soft experience. If you want to dare you have to go to the hammam for local but I do not think that the experience can be truly original because it is always adapted to the tourist, however pleasant. Absolutely to do

Amazing, relaxing experience!!
I visited Cagaloglu Hamami in November 2025 and had an amazing experience! I’ve been to an Asian bath house when I visited Beijing so I had a little familiarity.Upon walking in we were greeted by front desk staff who spoke good English. We paid the fee for our booked service and then were escorted to another room to get changed. My friend and I went in the morning so it was women only at that time. I had been told you’re able to lock your personal belongings up however you’re actually given the key to the whole individual changing room and you keep the key with you during your service. They give you a small disposable panty to wear (I had brought a bikini bottom but was glad to use theirs instead), and are then escorted to a sauna. The sauna is a separate marble room with a little archway door, not the traditional contemporary wooden box.I only wanted to stay in a short time so I left the sauna after about 5 minutes. My service was then performed by Ebru who did an amazing job! She was friendly, courteous, and strong. Her English was limited but we did just fine. The scrubbing and bubble wash/massage was amazing and then there was a short break where we were given Turkish tea along with fruit and nuts to nibble on. I then had a massage and time to relax before it was time to go. They sent us out with a small bag containing the remaining lotion that was used. There also is soap, lotion, and a comb in your changing room that you can have. There is a small gift shop area in the lobby you can buy towels or lotions. Consider this a must-do when visiting Istanbul. You deserve it!

Absolutely amazing!!
One of my best experiences in Istanbul! I loved every minute. I wished I had booked a longer treatment, instead of only 60 minutes. The entire Haman spa was both relaxing and invigorating. The foamy bubbles massage reminded me of childhood baths. Definitely not to be missed on a trip to Istanbul!

Visiting the Cağaloğlu Hamam was like stepping into a piece of living history. The architecture is breathtaking — beautifully preserved Ottoman design with marble interiors, high domes, and a serene atmosphere that instantly takes you back in time.
From the moment I entered, I was treated with warmth and professionalism. The traditional Turkish bath experience — steam room, scrub, foam massage — was both relaxing and rejuvenating. My skin felt incredibly soft afterwards, and the whole experience left me refreshed both physically and mentally.
It’s more than just a spa — it’s a cultural journey. If you’re in Istanbul and want to experience something truly authentic, the Cağaloğlu Hamam is an absolute must. Highly recommended!

Herkese tavsiye ederim!

Fantastic experience. Very authentic. Despite a little apprehension, particularly from my wife, the whole experience was brilliant. I would definitely recommend it
