A Brief History of Hurrem Sultan Hammam
The Ayasofya Hurrem Sultan Hammam was completed in 1556 by the great imperial architect Mimar Sinan, commissioned by Hurrem Sultan (Roxelana), wife of Suleiman the Magnificent, for the community of the neighbouring Hagia Sophia. The 75-metre building rose on the site of the ancient Baths of Zeuxippus and is regarded as one of Sinan’s classical Ottoman masterpieces, with two symmetrical sections set on a single axis.
